  26.    What is a synchronous connection? My modem supports it. Do I need a
  27.    special serial port or anything? My understanding is that 8 bits sent
  28. Yes. Two pins from the v.24 socket unused when using start stop bits
  29. are clock signals (send & receive). A standard pc serial port doesn't
  30. support them.
  31. Or no. If your modem is able of Hayes Autosync. Then you talk a
  32. special (asynchronous) protocol from pc to modem, which transports
  33. the bits needed for synchronous operation. (Perhaps RPI does the same)

  36. (But there are just bits on the line, no bytes, or at least you don't
  37. know when they start.)
